Charmaine brings to the table deep expertise in foundation/philanthropic advisory work as well as many years of experience working with nonprofits.

Charmaine brings over 25 years of international non-profit and for-profit experience, working with top tier organizations such as the Nike Foundation, the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, Deloitte, and Goldman Sachs.

As Founder and CEO of Impact Giving Advisors, Charmaine specializes in philanthropic strategy development, facilitating pivotal strategic decisions, market research and landscape analyses, as well as grantee capacity building and field development. Charmaine works with both individual philanthropists and foundations.  Some examples of Charmaine’s philanthropic projects/clients to date include:

  • Hopelab Foundation: supporting Hopelab Foundation in developing and implementing their long-term philanthropic operating strategy, as well as launching a new youth-tech investment fund.

  • Humanity United: providing strategy development, project management and facilitation support for the launch of HU’s overall Peacebuilding Portfolio strategy.

  • Vipassana Community Foundation (VCF): leading (as a part-time/embedded ED) all of VCF’s strategy development, grantmaking and operations, donor management, communications and board management (client since 2017).

  • Nike School Innovation Fund: providing foundational research analysis for the Nike School Innovation Fund to inform their education giving strategy;

  • Raiser Family Foundation: conducting grantee/market research on key giving opportunities, as well as launching their investment in "Swim Club for Kids;"

In addition to her work with Impact Giving Advisors, Charmaine’s positions have included: Vice President of the Stupski Foundation (where she was in charge of developing their $60 million dollar portfolio addressing food insecurity in the Bay Area); Chief of Strategy at Room to Read (where she was in charge of leading strategic planning and operational and programmatic expansion into new countries and regions); Senior Program Officer at the Moore Foundation (where she supported a 1 billion dollar conservation grant to Latin America). Charmaine has also held positions at Odwalla (where she lead their post-e.coli assessment team); Financial Services Volunteer Corps (where she established/managed FSVC’s Moscow office and delivery of programs to the Russian Central Bank and Parliament); and Goldman Sachs (where she was part of a three-person Russia advisory team).

Charmaine has worked in Denmark, France, U.K., Croatia, Russia, and Chile.  She speaks five languages, has an MBA from Harvard Business School, and a BA in Political Science from Dartmouth (graduating Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa, and Presidential Scholar).
